Happy March to all our Members!
As we approach the one-year anniversary of the Covid-19 restrictions, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you how the club is doing, and where we are with reopening.
But first, I would like to offer a huge and sincere thank you to Drs. Tiffany Townsend and Pete Gorenberg who delivered a Covid-19 presentation, which they had designed for the Coast Guard Auxiliary, as the program for last week’s TYC General Meeting. It was a pleasure to have such a professional presentation followed by a highly informative question and answer period.
On to the business of running Tiburon Yacht Club, I would like to take a moment to thank all our members for renewing their membership. You have kept our beloved Tiburon Yacht Club alive during this difficult period. Sadly, we have not been able to meet at the club, but there are many fixed costs associated with running our organization, and because of your prompt renewals TYC is in good financial health and we will be able to open when it is safe to do so.
As I am sure you understand, TYC runs like a household, incurring regular costs such as insurance, property tax, PG&E, water, etc. The board, in conjunction with house managers, have done everything in our power to reduce costs by limiting electricity, water, and gas usage. Volunteers are helping to keep the club clean with dusting and vacuuming so that it is easy to come back when we are able. Thank you to all those who brought forth creative ideas for cost cutting and have volunteered to help maintain the club in the past months.
The race committee has done a wonderful job keeping boats on the water while following the rules set out by the YRA and Coast Guard.
So, where does that leave us with in person meetings and social activities? As you probably know, Marin county has moved to the red tier which allows a wider range of events. We are busy working on an outdoor event that would be on the deck and follow the rules set out by the county. We will inform you as soon as we have it organized. We will continue to schedule online events as well. I like to think of it as our hybrid model of in person and online enjoyment. I am hopeful that with the vaccination program, mask wearing, and proper social distancing we will be able to enjoy the club again, if not indoors, at least on the deck, and grass areas on a more regular basis.
The board and committee members, thank you for your continuing support and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Fair winds and Following seas,
